CHIROPRACTIC: Gentle alignment for your whole body

Movement is life. In the chiropractic tradition, we restore motion in the joints where it has been lost or restricted. This gives you increased range of motion, decreased pain, and improved function in your muscles and organs. Not only does this help you feel better in many ways, but it also helps your body to be more resilient in the face of stress, injury, and illness. In other words, you bounce back a little faster!

Our doctors are trained to provide a range of different approaches, from very gentle and suitable for brand new babies, all the way to more dynamic adjustments for some adults. Some adults prefer gentle adjustments too, and we're happy to oblige. We find just the right combination of techniques to help you live your life more fully. Approaches we offer include diversified, drop-piece, activator, and CranioSacral. Your doctor will tell you about these options at your first visit or two.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY: facilitating your own body's healing

CranioSacral Therapy is a holistic healing practice that uses very light touch to balance the CranioSacral system in the body, which includes the bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area. This therapy is very gentle, subtle, and relaxing, and is done through the clothing (in contrast to therapeutic massage). It is a great way for you to center and access your innate ability to heal. CranioSacral Therapy is used to address many issues including sleep disturbance, pain, migraine, dizziness and vertigo, and much more.

NUTRITIONAL THERAPY

Functional medicine takes an evidence-informed yet individualized approach to your health. One person's skin irritation is not the same as the next person's, and so the remedy may not be the same. In fact, functional medicine prefers to treat the underlying causes of symptoms and foundational health for prevention with the following concepts in mind:

  • Each person has a unique biochemistry and may have different environmental sensitivities or requirements of nutrients.

  • Health care is more important than disease care. This means educating people to make better choices, improving the foundation of health throughout the systems, and acknowledging the body's warning signs when they appear.

  • The body has an amazing ability to adapt to stress, and pain is a poor indicator of health. Therefore, examination and tests are important tools in finding imbalance early enough to alter the outcome before a disease state sets in.

  • Each system in the body affects all the other systems in the body. For example, if hormonal disregulation exists, it is important to properly assess all the systems in case the origin of the problem is elsewhere, such as digestion.

  • Health is not the absence of disease. It is the presence of vitality, a state of balance, a combination of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

The tools we use in functional medicine include thorough interview, physical examination, dietary assessment, laboratory analysis, and nutritional supplementation.  No two people are given the same recommendations.  If you choose to utilize this approach to healing, it is important that you follow your doctor's recommendations. If you want a pill to fix everything, this is not approach for you. Functional medicine is all about learning about your unique health status and requirements, and then taking personal responsibility for getting the best possible outcome for you.

Multiradiance Laser

“L.A.S.E.R. (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) is a type of intense radiation of the light spectrum. A laser is a beam of light in which high energies can be concentrated. Laser light has unique physical properties, which other types of light do not have. These are coherence and monochromaticity. These are what makes laser light so effective compared to other kinds of light in the field of pain reduction and recovery. Laser treatment (also known as phototherapy and low level laser therapy) involves the application of low power coherent light to injuries to accelerate recovery and reduce pain.”

That’s what the manufacturer of our laser has to say. We find this FDA-approved tool to be helpful for a wide range of conditions, including pain, sprains and strains, wound healing, fracture healing, and arthritis. You can select the laser as an add-on to your visit so we can be sure to have it handy when you come in!

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE: ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a method of promoting natural healing and proper function in the body. Acupuncture is practiced by inserting hair-thin, sterile needles at strategic points in order to achieve a balanced and smooth flow of qi ("chee") and blood. Acupuncture is used to treat insomnia, digestive issues, reproductive issues, depression, anxiety, and much more. Alternatives to needles are available, so if you are afraid of needles or have some other concern about using them, we have options!

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle form of massage therapy that helps your lymphatic system to flow in a healthy way. This is helpful for swelling (edema), including chronic and acute conditions. The work is particularly useful after a surgery or an injury – and some people find that lymphatic work is a useful way to keep their immune system operating optimally, or to clear toxins from their system.

The work is generally done directly on the skin, without any cremes or oils. We might take a regional or a full-body approach. First, we clear the most useful areas for lymph flow, then we work through the rest of the area.

Although the approach is highly scientific, most people find the work surprisingly relaxing.
