Dr. Rowan Renee (she/they)
Doctor of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine, Master of Acupuncture, Licensed Acupuncturist
Hello and welcome in! I am a licensed acupuncturist as recognized by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, also known as NCCAOM. I earned my Masters in Acupuncture from Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) in 2025, and my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, also from NWHSU, in spring of 2026.
Healthcare is an important part of my family background. As a teenager, I watched my mother build her private practice from the ground up. Her passion for providing excellent integrative care to every person that visited her office was awe-inspiring, and piqued my interest in traditional Chinese medicine. During my undergraduate studies, I complimented my English degree with East Asian religions and basic plant sciences, thinking that maybe someday I would like to learn more. I planned to study abroad in China.
Everything changed after the COVID-19 pandemic. Study abroad was no longer an option. During the intense summer of 2020 in Minneapolis, I volunteered at a women’s encampment setting up supplies and doing security. I noticed that the same issues showed up again and again – insomnia, chronic pain, depression, and addiction. I knew that all these things could be addressed with acupuncture, but that wasn’t accessible in that setting. My dream since then has been to provide quality care to those who otherwise might not have access to it, and get the opportunity to connect them with other accessible healthcare resources, too.
While in acupuncture school, I had the pleasure of working with experienced supervisors in clinical settings including hospitals and community care spaces. As I progressed through my clinical hours, I discovered a passion for treating depression, anxiety, insomnia, and addiction in particular. I also love treating patients experiencing chronic pain, digestive issues, and sexual health concerns. Quality healthcare involves many types of medicine, and may include allopathic medicine, massage, physical therapy, acupuncture, and a variety of other interventions depending on the person. Acupuncture is not meant to be an alternative – healing goes better when we all work together. I hope to be a resource for patients navigating complex medical situations by helping connect them with providers who are able to treat their specific needs.
My style of treatment is very gentle. While needling is what many people expect from an acupuncture treatment, I am also trained and qualified to provide cupping, tui na (Chinese medical massage), moxa, ear beads, and gua sha. I tend towards fewer needles generally, but it all comes down to patient preference. As a trained herbalist, I am also able to work with you to find a customized herbal treatment plan, in addition to or instead of acupuncture.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, snuggling my old calico cat, and making music with friends.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your health care goals!
