Together, we’ll work with the body—not against it—to restore connection and function in the area of the scar. This may include:

  • Gentle manual therapy to reduce restriction or tightness

  • Nervous system-informed touch to support sensory reintegration

  • Emotional support if the scar holds trauma or unresolved grief

How to Prepare for Your Massage

To make the most of your session, wear comfortable clothing and arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in. We recommend having a light meal or snack beforehand (rather than coming very full or very hungry) and drinking water before and after your appointment to support your body’s natural healing. Before we begin, you’ll have a chance to share any areas of focus, sensitivities, or preferences—your comfort is our priority.

After Your Massage

Your body continues to process the benefits of massage even after your session ends. To support this:

  • Hydrate well to help your body release tension and support circulation.

  • Rest and listen to your body. Some people feel energized, while others feel deeply relaxed—both are normal.

  • Gentle movement like walking or stretching can help integrate the changes.

  • If you experience mild soreness (similar to post-exercise), it usually eases within a day or two.

  • Your comfort is our top priority from beginning to end. Wear what you want and you will undress to your level of comfort. You’ll be draped with sheets during the session, and only the area being worked on will be uncovered. We’ll ask your permission every step of the way!

  • You get to set the tone. Some people enjoy quiet, while others feel more comfortable with conversation. There’s no right or wrong—we’ll follow your lead.

  • That depends on your goals and what feels supportive for your body. Weekly sessions can be helpful during times of stress, injury, or healing. Many people choose monthly or seasonal sessions for ongoing maintenance and wellbeing.

  • Massage can support pain relief, mobility, circulation, and nervous system regulation. It’s not a cure, but it often brings meaningful relief and pairs beautifully with other forms of care you may be receiving at Stockheart.

  • We’ll check in with you often, and you are encouraged to speak up at any point. Your body’s feedback is essential. If something doesn’t feel right—pressure, positioning, or technique—we’ll adjust right away. Your comfort and safety guide the entire session.
