Living Forward: A Stockheart Reflection on Long COVID

At Stockheart Whole Health, we believe healing is not about going back—it's about moving forward. For those living with Long COVID, this path can be unpredictable, lonely, and often misunderstood. But we see you. We honor your experience. And we walk beside you.

When your body forgets how to body

We’re here to help you figure out what your new rhythm might look like. You need extra help regulating the basics, like heart rate, body temperature, sleep, and digestion. Routine is key; we can help you get there!

What Is Long COVID?

Long COVID—also called post-COVID condition or post-acute CoViD-19 syndrome (PACS)—is a collection of lingering symptoms that continue weeks, months, and even years after the initial infection. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, health history, or the severity of their original illness. It is now the leading cause of disability for children in the US. Symptoms range from mild to disabling, resulting in dramatic changes in identity, family dynamics, social connection, and quality of life.

Common Symptoms

Long COVID often impacts multiple systems in the body. Symptoms may come and go, or change over time. These can include:

  • 🌫 Brain fog and memory issues

  • 💓 Heart palpitations or racing pulse

  • 💤 Fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest

  • 🌬 Shortness of breath or chest tightness

  • 🔥 Muscle, nerve, and joint pain

  • 🌙 Sleep disturbances

  • 🌀 Dizziness or postural instability

  • 🧠 Anxiety, depression, or mood changes

  • 🩺 New sensitivities to food, sound, light, or stress

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone—and you are not imagining it.

Medical gaslighting is unfortunately a very real experience for those struggling with invisible chronic illnesses like Long COVID. These symptoms are largely subjective, meaning they are difficult to measure or quantify through medical testing. It is important that you find a team of experts who believe you, support you, and cheer for your successes, both big and small!

How We Support Healing

At Stockheart, we take a whole-person, integrative approach. Our care is trauma-informed, heart-centered, and rooted in the belief that healing looks different for everyone.

Your plan may include:

  1. Gentle nervous system support: Somatic practices, mindfulness, vagus nerve stimulation, restorative movement, and gentle chiropractic

  2. Acupuncture & traditional therapies: To ease inflammation, support circulation, and regulate energy

  3. Functional and integrative nutrition: To replenish what’s been depleted and reduce symptom flares

  4. Energy management & pacing strategies: To help you work with your body—not against it

  5. Grief and trauma-informed support: To hold space for everything this illness has changed

  6. Community & connection: Because healing is more possible when we don’t do it alone

  7. Finding joy in this moment: To help you locate meaning and happiness while accepting “what is"

However far away joy might feel, it is available in every moment.

It is important to focus on what brings you joy and find time for those things regularly. This serves to shift your mindset away from what you have lost and toward things you look forward to.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
